What is an MSP, and how can it help your business?
There are so many acronyms in the information technology industry – AP, API, FTP, IP, and the list goes on and on. If you do not want to remember any of these acronyms anymore, look to this, hopefully, last acronym: MSP.
An MSP is short for managed service provider. It is a third-party company that remotely manages a customer’s information technology, or IT needs. Many small and medium-sized businesses, non-profits, and government agencies hire MSPs to perform daily management services. Some of these services include, but are not limited to, networking and infrastructure management, cybersecurity training and controls, device monitoring and patching. MSPs also manage 3rd party technology, like Quickbooks.
Benefits of MSPs
While many small and medium-sized businesses hire an employee or a few employees to handle the IT for their organization, companies still need an IT company to handle some of their needs.
Some of the benefits of hiring an MSP over an employee are:
Cost Hiring one IT person can cost your company $50,000-$100,000 plus benefits from a budgetary standpoint. Having one company take care of all of your IT needs at a fixed rate might be more cost-effective for your bottom line.
Different Levels of Support When you hire an employee, they alone or responsible for your IT needs; whereas when you hire an MSP, you get an entire team approach. From Tier 1 assistance which is basic IT needs to Tier 3, which includes network administration, an MSP offers a whole team approach to meet your needs, issues, or requirements.
Always Up to Date on Technology Changes and Trends The IT world is constantly evolving. To make sure clients receive the most up-to-date support available to them, MSPs need to be on top of all things new to technology.
“I’d like to add that being on top of technology trends is a big deal,” says James Haywood, Project Manager with Intrada Technologies. “As an MSP, we have no choice but to stay on top of current technology trends. This is important for us to stay competitive and provide a high level of customer service to our clients. More importantly, we need to remain abreast of cybercrime exploits and threats so that we can convey these to our clients and their employees. We are their technology news feed and advisors.”
